August 1, 1834 marked a special day for Africans in British colonies as it was the day that slavery was abolished. All slaves were legally declared free but it was not until four years later-1838, that real freedom came.
Jamaica is rich with a unique culture expressed through its food, dress and various art forms, including dance. Though most persons are familiar with dancehall moves from Jamaica, traditional folk forms of dance such as Dinki Mini, Kumina and Gerreh also reflect aspects of our culture.
15 students from several areas of study seized the opportunity to participate in the National Commercial Bank, NCB’s, innovation internship programme. The five week intensive programme the first of its kind in Jamaica encouraged local and international full-time undergraduates to propose innovative ideas on banking solutions.
