The Full Story

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr.  the Hon. Christopher Tufton, says restoration works at the Cornwall Regional Hospital is now expected to be completed late 2022.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on December 14, the Minister said rehabilitative works under the penultimate phase have started.

The disclosure follows last month’s contract signing with contractors, M and M Jamaica Limited and Cabinet’s approval of emergency procurement activities to facilitate the completion of the current phase.

“When Cornwall Regional is complete, it will be a brand new second hand, well equipped and able to serve the people of western Jamaica and we’re looking forward to that. I want to use the opportunity to thank them for their patience, the doctors, the nurses, the people of western Jamaica, because they have been patient over these many years as we seek to find the right formula to complete that facility,” Dr. Tufton said.

He added that when completed, the hospital, along with the new Western Children and Adolescents Hospital being constructed on its grounds, are expected to bring an additional 700 to 800 beds to the western region.
