Prominent Attorney Is New Board Member For The FSC

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service has announced that the Financial Services Commission (FSC} will now have a new board member, with the appointment of Langston Sibblies.
Mr. Sibblies, QC, is the former Deputy Managing Director and General Counsel of the Cayman Island Monetary Authority (CIMA) and has been an attorney-at-law for more than 40 years. He has worked at both private and public firms in the Caribbean and specialised in compliance, policy development and legal affairs during his tenure at the Caymanian monetary institution.
He is described as a legal luminary and was educated in law in Jamaica and Canada. His previous posts include Crown Counsel in Cayman, Senior Crown Counsel in the British Virgin Islands, legislative policy counsel in Ontario, Canada, and Director of Public Prosecutions in Grenada. In the private sector, he has worked as a law editor with a leading Canadian tax and business law publisher and practised as a private lawyer in Jamaica and Toronto.
Speaking on the heels of the appointment, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke noted that Mr. Sibblies is a distinguished member of the Jamaican diaspora,
“He has accumulated vast international financial sector regulatory, supervisory and compliance experience that will be of tremendous value to Jamaica. We are very grateful that Mr. Sibblies has accepted the invitation to contribute his knowledge, international experience and expertise to the development of Jamaica through this appointment to the Board of the Financial Services Commission.”
Minister Clarke continued, “I expect that at the first meeting of the new board, Mr. Sibblies will be confirmed as Deputy Chairman of the board of the FSC”.
