Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Government intends to build 4,108 housing solutions in St. Elizabeth, to boost the parish’s residential infrastructure.
The comprehensive plan encompasses several major housing projects over the next few years.
Mr. Holness provided details of the plan during the official handover of residential serviced lots at the new Friendship Oaks Phase 1 development in Goshen, St. Elizabeth, on May 17.
The Prime Minister indicated that the Friendship Oaks development is divided into two phases. Phase One includes 106 residential serviced lots, which were handed over on the day, with an additional 150 one-bedroom units to be completed by 2027.
He added that Phase Two of the development will include 543 housing solutions comprising a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, along with serviced lots.
This phase is also slated for completion in 2027.
“So, we have the Malvern housing development that will be a National Housing Trust (NHT) scheme. It will have 30 solutions. Those solutions are serviced lots like what we are giving here, and that is set to be completed in 2025,” Mr. Holness indicated.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the Luana housing development under the Developers Programme, noting that it will consist of 360 housing solutions.
This development will feature a combination of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, along with serviced lots, and is expected to be completed by 2028.
There is also the Gilnock Hall development under the Developers Programme, which will see the construction of 2,425 housing solutions, Mr. Holness said, making it the “largest project in the plan”.
The completion date for this development is set for 2029 and will include one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, as well as serviced lots.
“We have Holland Estate, which will be our NHT housing scheme, where there will be 540 housing solutions, and these will be detached studios of one bedroom and two-bedroom units. That is slated for 2030,” Mr. Holness pointed out.
“We have Kensington, under our Developers Programme, that will all be one-bedroom units, which are slated for completion in 2026,” he added.
Mr. Holness emphasised that these projects are not merely on the drawing board but are in various stages of execution.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of these housing solutions in addressing the growing demand for affordable housing in St. Elizabeth.
He said that meticulous planning and phased execution are necessary to ensure the quality and sustainability of the developments.
