The Full Story

Police Commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake, says security presence and operational activity will be increased across the island for the remainder of 2026

He made the disclosure during an online address on Thursday (November 5) outlining the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) plans and key initiatives for the year end.

“As we enter the final weeks of the year, your JCF has a clear responsibility to protect your right to live peacefully, earn an honest living, and enjoy the [Christmas] season without fear. We will bring every available resource to that task. Our goal is to take you through a peaceful, safe and crime-free festive season,” Dr. Blake said.

“We believe that is achievable. Every life we save is someone who gets to go home to their loved ones. You will see more police officers on our streets and more targeted operations across the country. Our deployments will be guided by intelligence, with particular attention to those responsible for violence. Jamaicans and visitors should be able to shop, work, worship and celebrate in safety,” he added.

Commissioner Blake delivered a stern warning to those who continue to threaten communities, declaring, “We are coming for you. We will find you, confront you and seek to bring you to justice.

“We are determined to prevent you from inflicting further harm. The investigative capacity of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is stronger than ever. Our intelligence capabilities and operational reach give us greater confidence in our ability to identify offenders, locate them and build cases supported by evidence,” he stated.

Dr. Blake pointed out that murder clear-up rates exceed 100 per cent in almost every police division.

“That means that the number of cases that we have solved, so far, this year is more than the number of murders committed this year. This is possible because we are also solving cases from previous years. If you are contemplating murder, understand the consequences. We have the capacity to identify you and find you where you are hiding. We will pursue the evidence and place it before the court,” he stressed.

The Commissioner emphasised that Jamaica will not surrender the progress its people have worked so hard to achieve.

Meanwhile, Dr. Blake noted that the JCF has repeatedly appealed for individuals to settle disagreements peacefully and turn away from crime, pointing out that many have heeded the call.

“Some have found legitimate employment and begun rebuilding their lives. That choice remains open. There are opportunities to earn an honest living in construction, manufacturing, and the creative industries… seek them out… seek assistance where you need it. The people leaving home each morning to provide for their families deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labour… they deserve your respect,” he further stated, adding that others have learned through painful experience where crime leads.
