Parliament Resumes on Tuesday… Preparations for IMF Application in High Gear

Parliament will resume its sessions on Tuesday, September 15, and sit again on Wednesday, September 16. This was announced by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Daryl Vaz, at the Post Cabinet Press Conference at Jamaica House on September 9.
The Minister said that the Government is consulting with the social partners before submitting the Supplementary Estimates on September 22, and that the Standing Finance Committee will discuss them on September 23.
Minister Vaz noted that the Government was on track to have its application for budget support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) submitted on time in October. As a part of these preparations, a technical team from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is now meeting with IMF representatives in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
The Minister of Finance will attend the annual meeting of the joint Boards of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank in Istanbul, Turkey from October 6-7. Finance Ministers and Governors of central banks are invited and according to the IMF website, the agenda includes an address on the financial resources required to promote economic development in developing countries.
