The National Finals of the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition will be held on Sunday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m., at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, under the theme: ‘Moving Forward’.
Subject Specialist for Gospel and Church Services at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Leighton Jones, said final preparations for the show are in high gear.
“We’re doing well, the finalists had their last rehearsal last week Friday and we are really raring and ready to go,” Mr. Jones said.
He pointed out that the Commission has added another element to the competition called the ‘People’s Choice Award’, which allows the public to visit the JCDC Facebook page and vote once every three hours for their favourite song.
“This voting will be closed at the intermission of the show and the winner of this award will receive a recording of a single, courtesy of Don McDowell, with the intent of getting that song on a compilation album,” he said.
Gospel Singer, Joan Flemming and the JCDC Jamaica Gospel Song Finalist in 2013, Howard Brown, will be the guest performers for the show.
The Subject Specialist is encouraging the public to come out and support the 10 finalists. He pointed out that the Gospel Song Competition has been contributing to Jamaica’s moral fabric, which is essential to growth and development.
“The show really promises to be a wonderful two and a half hours. You may not need the chairs, you may just need to stand and just wave your hands and worship and enjoy yourself,” said Mr. Jones.
Tickets for the event are available at the JCDC’s head office at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10; on its website at www.jcdcjamaica.com, or at the JCDC’s parish offices islandwide; and at Sangster’s Book Store. A presold ticket will cost $900, while at the gate it is $1,000 for adults and $400 for children.
