August 30, 2006

The Full Story

Minister of Housing, Transport, Water and Works, Robert Pickersgill, has said that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) was fully prepared for the new school year.
“We have sufficient buses on our fleet to move the commuting public. We are confident of improved services to our students,” the Minister informed, as he addressed a press conference held today (Aug.30) at his Maxfield Avenue offices in Kingston.
Meanwhile, President of the JUTC, Patrick McIntosh, announced that the company would be embarking on a series of promotions to encourage students to take the buses and utilise the smart cards.
“We have embarked on a programme which we do every year, to go into schools to encourage the students to take the buses and to use the smart cards. For anyone, who tops up a smart card by $500 or more, or gets a new smart card starting at the $500 level, there will be an additional 10 per cent,” he informed.
