The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Education Transformation Oversight Committee (ETOC) continues to make progress in implementing the recommendations of the Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC).

In his contribution to the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 21), Mr. Holness said ETOC reported last week that of the 101 recommendations targeted for implementation to date, 97 are on track.

ETOC has been charged with monitoring the implementation of 365 recommendations contained in the report of the JETC, which was chaired by Professor Orlando Patterson.

Launched in July 2020, the JETC was mandated to comprehensively review and assess Jamaica’s education system, including its structure, operation and processes, and recommend an action plan for change.

Prior to that, the last major comprehensive review of the national public education system was undertaken in 2004 by the Task Force on Educational Reform.
