The Full Story

The Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) is expecting 1,269 affordable housing solutions to be brought to the market during the 2022/23 financial year, from three joint-venture arrangements.

The joint-venture projects are with China Harbour Engineering Company, Henan Fifth Construction Group and RiteSolutions Developers Limited.

Details are provided in the Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the year ending March 2023, which was tabled in Parliament on February 10.

The developments are Catherine Estates (Bernard Lodge), St. Catherine, being undertaken with China Harbour Engineering Company – 800 deliveries; Edmond Ridge in St James with Henan Fifth Construction Group – 169 deliveries; and Hellshire View, St. Catherine with RiteSolutions Developers Limited – 300 deliveries.

The Agency is also expected to deliver 74 affordable housing solutions through an HAJ-owned and managed project in Reid’s Pen, Portmore, St. Catherine.

“During the 2021/22 financial year, the HAJ commenced construction of 148 solutions under this development,” the document noted.

The HAJ will also regularise informal communities under Operation PRIDE through the distribution of 7,732 titles it currently holds.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with the National Land Agency, the HAJ will be introducing a Land Titling Blitz Pilot Programme, aimed at reducing outstanding lot prices by up to 50 per cent for targeted communities.

It is expected that this effort will result in the distribution of approximately 3,500 titles during the 2022/23 financial year.
