October 13, 2011

The Full Story

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has extended condolences to the family of retired Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Grace Allen Young, who died this morning, October 13. Dr. Allen Young had been ailing for some time.

Mr. Golding said that Dr. Allen Young brought her Christian principles to her profession.

“I am saddened at the news this morning that Dr. Allen Young, who recently retired, has passed away.  The government benefitted in the early days from having an administrator who was also a medical professional at the helm of the Ministry of Health. The Government's programme that is currently allowing health care workers to upgrade their skills and qualify to be pharmacists in the public service started under her stewardship. She was known to be a woman who was very strong in her Christian faith, and her mother, her husband Rev. Dr. Rupert Young, family and friends, can be comforted as they hold close to that assurance in this time."

Dr. Allen Young had a distinguished profession as a pharmacist. She served as head of the Pharmaceutical Services from 1991-1999 and was the Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary from 2001-2010.
