The Full Story

The Jamaica Diaspora Conference will provide potential Diaspora investors with information about opportunities in key sectors of the economy, empowering them to contribute to the development of their homeland.

The four-day event, under the theme: ‘United for Jamaica’s Transformation: Fostering Peace, Productivity and Youth Empowerment,’ is being held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James from June 16-19.

Speaking at a recent JIS Think Tank, Conference Chair and President and Chief Executive Officer of the VM Group, Courtney Campbell, said that the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), which is the lead business facilitation entity, will be hosting three power breakfast sessions on Monday and Tuesday with overseas Jamaican business interests, who will be encouraged to participate in growth areas of the economy.

“They will be able to receive information on some particular sections of the economy that we are trying to promote – the digital economy, the business outsourcing sector and agriculture. JAMPRO is pulling together local experts and facilitators in all these sectors. We expect that the businesspeople from overseas will make contacts, seek information, and…will be empowered to invest, he said.

Mr. Campbell said that the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ) will be present to provide information on how businesses can be incorporated in Jamaica, and financial institutions will also be on hand to facilitate discussions on transactions.

Mr. Campbell said that a “robust process for follow-up actions” has been implemented, and in the coming weeks and months, teams will be liaising with all the business interests and making links with agencies and persons who want to invest in Jamaica.
