More Female Participants for Overseas Work Programme
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon., Shahine Robinson (left), greets Renford Lewis (third right), one of 300 persons comprising the first batch of farm workers who will take up employment opportunities for this year in Canada under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Programme (SAWP). Minister Robinson hosted a send-off ceremony for them at the Ministry’s Overseas Employment Services Centre in downtown Kingston on Wednesday (January 3). Others (from right) are Deneva Codner, Trevayne Gayle, and Jeffeth Tennant. The workers, who will be employed in greenhouse crop production, food processing, tobacco planting, vegetable farming and fruit tree cultivation, will depart the island starting on Thursday (January 4), while another group will leave on Friday (January 5). The majority of them will be deployed to the Ontario region of Canada.
