The Full Story

Manufacturers and artisans interested in participating in this year’s ‘Christmas in July’ trade show have until May 25 to submit their applications.

The application form can be accessed on the Tourism Enhancement Fund’s (TEF) website at www.tef.gov.jm.

The event is an opportunity for local producers of gifts and souvenir items to promote their products to alternative market segments.

Director, Tourism Linkages Network, Carolyn McDonald Riley, told JIS News that the trade show provides an organised medium for corporate Jamaica to purchase from local suppliers as well as for the diaspora, overseas markets, and the tourism industry to access “gifting opportunities in our space”.

She pointed out that while there is no limit to the number of applications “the earlier persons apply, the earlier the processing can take place”.

Mrs. McDonald Riley said that products can be from the category of desktop solutions, aromatherapy and spa, décor, fashion, fine art, souvenir and jewelry, food as well as items made from organic and natural fibres.

She noted that in selecting participants for the tradeshow, consideration is given to design and aesthetics, labelling and tag, pricing, product relevance, existing market outlets, durability, construction, packaging and accessories, functionality, cultural connection and product spectrum.

She said that all applications will be evaluated, assessed and recommendations made where necessary.

Mrs. McDonald Riley informed that 250 applications were received last year, of which 150 were selected to showcase their products.

‘Christmas in July’ is a collaborative effort of the Tourism Linkages Network and its partners, Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (JMEA), Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA).
