The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has donated more than 10 two-way radios to facilitate better communication between firefighters working at the Riverton City disposal site.
This comes in the wake of containment efforts being undertaken at the site since Wednesday.
Head of the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Inspector Dahlia Garrick, said a dedicated special circuit has been made available through the JCF policing network.
She explained that the efficiency of the communication mechanism will be enhanced on the ground, adding that the devices will be used by firefighters, police, and military personnel, and will be available until the situation is fully controlled at the disposal site.
Fire broke out at the Riverton disposal site on Wednesday, March 11, and firefighters, assisted by police and military personnel, have been working throughout the day and night to extinguish the blaze.
