‘This Government is Serious About Education’…PM

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, is serious about education.
He reiterated his position in Parliament yesterday, when he defended his position on Government’s purchase of property at Ferry, which houses the Hydel Group of Schools, preventing the demise of the institution which provides education for over 1,200 children.
He is so serious about the future education of the next generation that despite his very hectic schedule, he has been spending some time trying to identify the needs of students from as young as age three.
Mr. Golding recently visited students at St Andrew Primary, where he handed over 10 new computers to its labs. Last week he also toured the Central Branch Infant School, to see for himself the refurbished facilities following damage done to the school in 2004. He took a full tour of the institution ensuring that it has been brought up to the standard that will make it ready to accommodate its students under very comfortable conditions.
Yesterday morning (Nov 11) Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, took time out again for the children, this time hosting 38 students from the Mission House Basic School, which is situated just outside Gordon Town in St. Andrew. The little ones paid a courtesy call on PM Golding through the intervention of the Kiwanis Club of Eastern St Andrew.
According to the Club’s Chairman Carolyn McDonald-Riley, when the Club members enquired from the students about their special wish- they insisted that all they wanted to do was to meet ‘Prime Minister Bruce’.
So the Kiwanians wrote to Prime Minister Bruce. The students arrived at Jamaica House in air conditioned Luxury Island Car Rental buses, led by their Principal Mrs. Kyc-Ann Scott, other teachers, and members of the Kiwanis Club of Eastern St Andrew, led by President Paula McCooty- Green.
The students came prepared with their own message to the PM and entertained him with their poem titled ‘Little Rising Stars’, which addressed the importance of passing on positive messages to children. Prime Minister Golding presented them with books, crayons, and pencils, courtesy of Kingston Bookshop and was given a moving vote of thanks by little Aaliyah Burke.
