Tax Filing Season Countdown Continues
By: March 4, 2025 ,The Full Story
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding Income Tax filers that they should be making preparations to file their 2024 Annual Income Tax Returns and 2025 Estimated Returns on March 17, 2025, with 13 days remaining.
Taxpayers including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise clients, may still get free support to meet their filing their obligations through the Authority’s Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP).
The programme schedule, which may be accessed in the Income Tax information hub (www.jamaicatax.gov.jm), is designed to provide business persons earning an annual income of $10M or less, with assistance to file or get registered for electronic filing ahead of Tax Day.
This tax season, hundreds of individuals have benefitted from TAJ’s Income Tax Webinar Series in February, to provide taxpayers with interactive and convenient sessions on various Income Tax related topics.
The sessions catered to Income Tax filers by providing them with income tax education, from the convenience of their personal spaces, while getting informational support from TAJ tax experts in preparation for Tax Day filing.
Additionally, the Authority continues to engage with its strategic partners during the Income Tax filing period via collaborative education webinars and workshops, to provide customized support to the various memberships and clientele.
This year, these partners include the Jamaica Business Development Corporations (JBDC), the Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ), The Micro, Small and Medium (MSME) Alliance, The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA), as well as the Sagicor and National Commercial Banks.
ALL companies, organizations, self-employed persons and employed persons with other sources of income, are reminded that they MUST file their Returns online as required by law.
The filing requirement also relates to newly registered companies, even if they have not begun trading or began trading at any time during 2024.
ALL filing MUST be done using the Administration’s Tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
Individuals are able to benefit from the newly introduced Residential Photovoltaic Solar System Credit (RPSSC) this tax season.
The new tax initiative allows taxpayers (employed, self-employed or pensioners), who installed PV solar panels at their primary place of residence since January 1, 2023, to benefit from a tax credit for self-employed persons, who file using a S04 or cash refund for pensioners or PAYE persons who file using the IT05 Return.
Taxpayers have a suite of digital options at their fingertips, when making their Income Tax payments. TAJ’s Direct Funds Transfer service allows taxpayers to transfer amounts from their bank accounts directly into the Revenue Authority’s account, after generating a Direct Funds Transfer Number (DFTN) or Payment Advice, from their TAJ eService account.
Additionally, National Commercial Bank and Scotiabank customers may opt to use their online banking platform by adding TAJ as a Payee, as well as Scotiabank’s additional option of their mobile application.
Payments can also be made via the TAJ’s website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm using a credit card or other banking card with credit card features.
Persons may visit the ‘How To’ section at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm for user-friendly instructions on how to file online, or avail themselves of one-on-one virtual sessions where TAJ personnel will provide their staff with online training, in helping them to make the necessary preparations.
