The Full Story

Children and senior citizens from Mark Lane and nearby communities came together for a festive Christmas celebration hosted by the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday (Dec. 18) on the Gordon House grounds.

Members of Parliament were on hand to share in the festivities and distribute meals, gifts and care packages.

Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew, the Most Hon. Juliet Holness said the event embodies the spirit of Christmas.

She said she was pleased to see the expressions of joy on the children’s faces as they enjoyed rides, bounce house and other activities.

“This event brings so much joy and satisfaction and it really highlights the true meaning of Christmas,” she said.

She also commended the hard work of the Parliament staff and the generous contributions to make the event possible.

This year’s treat included a special health village for senior citizens as well as a kiddies park where children enjoyed fun activities and games.

The event also served as an opportunity for the community to unite and share in the holiday spirit.

Gifts and refreshment were provided further symbolising the unity and care that define the Christmas season.

Senior citizens were also given care packages with toiletries and nutritious food items.

For over 20 years, the management and staff of the Houses of Parliament have organised annual Christmas Treats, aimed at spreading festive cheer to senior citizens, shut-ins, and children from local communities.

The event is a much-anticipated tradition, fostering a sense of togetherness and goodwill among the residents of Mark Lane and surrounding areas.
