The Full Story

Residents of the Rock of Hope Residential Manor in St. Catherine received gifts and had repairs and cleaning of their facility done by Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) members attached to the Guanaboa Vale Police Station, on Labour Day (May 23).

Several of the officers went to the home, which is located in Bellevue Heights, and provided the residents with meals, items of clothing, and refurbished the facility.

They also handed over care packages to 25 residents in Kitson Town, also in the parish.

Head of the Guanaboa Vale Police, Sergeant Navelette Davis-Leachman, told JIS News that following a request from the Police High Command that they should support initiatives that would assist the vulnerable on Labour Day, they had weekly meetings and planned for the outreach.

“It was not hard for us to get things going, and I must commend my officers. They were not selfish, they dug deep into their pockets, and we got the job done. Working together with the community, this will enhance the growth and team effort of policing,” she said.

Sergeant Davis-Leachman emphasised that she wants an environment where people can be in contact with the police, not only when they have to apprehend persons but in good times.

“We will have a better partnership with the community. We are here because we take our work seriously,” she said.

Head of the Kitson Town-based Seventh-day Church of God Fellowship Ministries, Bishop Curven Whyte, said the gesture by the police has impressed him.

“They themselves at the Guanaboa Vale Police Station have needs, but they put the needs of their community first, and I commend them for it,” the Bishop said.

Supervisor at the Home, Michelle Guthrie, said the gesture by the police was well appreciated.

“We thank you for your generosity, and we pray that we will continue the relationship,” she told the police officers.

Labour Day was observed under the theme ‘Ramp up the access… Show that you care’, with a focus on people with disabilities, the elderly and the vulnerable.
