On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, the Andrew’s Memorial Hospital (AMH) in Kingston is being hailed as an embodiment of excellence in the healthcare sector by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness.
Mr. Holness was addressing congregants during the hospital’s anniversary church service at Andrew’s Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kingston on Saturday (April 6), where he extended commendations on the “remarkable milestone” achieved by the institution.
“‘Andrew’s’, as it is affectionately called by all Jamaicans, has evolved and grown, thanks to the generosity of donors and the tireless efforts of dedicated staff and volunteers,” the Prime Minister said.
“From its modest beginnings with a bed capacity of 45, it now stands as a beacon of hope and healing, operating a 64-bed capacity equipped with state-of-the-art amenities and services. Andrew’s Memorial Hospital embodies excellence in the healthcare sector,” he added.
Mr. Holness cited that the holistic approach to health is reflected in the hospital’s diverse range of services, including outpatient care, a dental clinic, imaging and laboratory services, a pharmacy, and a vegetarian cafeteria.
The Prime Minister further noted that the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamaica has been a “steadfast ally” in the fight against non-communicable diseases.
Meanwhile, Mr. Holness said Jamaicans are beginning to see the Government making significant allocations towards all sectors of the economy, including health.
He pointed out, however, that it will take some time for all the investments to result in a “different perspective” of the health system.

Listing a slate of projects which are ongoing across health facilities islandwide, the Prime Minister said the Government is also aware of the challenges that exist in the sector, adding that “the cup is half full and filling up.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Holness extended a charge to the leadership, staff and associates of Andrew’s Memorial Hospital.
“As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, let us not only honour the remarkable achievements of AMH, but also re-dedicate ourselves to the noble cause of healing and compassion.
“May we continue to embrace the future with optimism and innovation, guided by timeless principles of faith, love and holistic health,” he said.
The theme for the hospital’s anniversary celebrations is: ‘80 Years – Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future: Healing, Compassion, Innovation’.
