Hope Valley Experimental School to get Face-Lift Labour Day

The Hope Valley Experimental School at 2 University Road, Mona, Kingston will receive a face-lift from members of the Muslim Youth Organisation of Jamaica, who will undertake the cleaning and painting of the institution for their Labour Day project this year.
President of the organisation, Hanif Abdulqadir, along with advisor Khummit Keshinro, will lead a team of approximately 30 young people in this effort. Speaking with JIS News, Public Relations Officer for the organisation, Sulaiman Tijani said that, “one of the primary factors that led to this project is the fact that the institution really tries to offer a well needed service in Jamaica.”
The Hope Valley Experimental School is one of the few schools in the island that caters to the educational development of disabled and able-bodied children simultaneously. There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, the majority of whom are able-bodied children. However, there are students who suffer from physical challenges, such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.
Mr. Tijani explained that the project was in keeping with the national Labour Day theme: ‘Honouring Our Ancestors.Strengthening Communities’ and the organisation “hopes that this Labour Day project will truly benefit all the students of Hope Valley Experimental.”
“This is the first time that the youth arm has actually spearheaded its own project,” he said, adding that members have often given service to large projects, which the Islamic Council of Jamaica (of which they are a part), has undertaken.
Meanwhile, school principal, Sharon Williams, told JIS News that she was very pleased with the effort being made by the youth organisation to improve the educational facilities for the students.
“We welcome any help that we can get and we expect that parents and teachers will be involved in the project,” she said.
