SDA Church to Undertake Improvement Works at Police Stations

As part of its 125^th anniversary celebrations, representatives of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamaica will undertake repairs at a number of police stations islandwide, on Sunday, October 25.

The engagement, being carried out under a major improvement project, will include: the building of access ramps for the physically challenged; painting; and electrical repairs.

President, Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor Everett Brown, has indicated that the improvement works form part of that body’s undertaking to give back to communities, particularly during the period of the celebrations.

“We have done our assessments, and indentified those areas that we are in a position to address. So, on Sunday, throughout Jamaica, a number of our members will be visiting these police stations to do repairs,” he said.

Pastor Brown advised that activities on some projects have already started, adding that work on new ones will commence on Sunday, while others are scheduled for completion on that day.

According to the Union Head, the improvement project will continue beyond Sunday, and will incorporate other community members who will be invited to assist in whatever way possible.

“As members of the communities, we benefit from the hard work that the men and women of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) do on a daily basis; and by making their environment more conducive for work, we are assisting them in addressing the crime problem,” Pastor Brown stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of crime, Glenmore Hinds, said the High Command and wider JCF membership welcome the venture, and lauded the SDA church for initiating the engagement.

Mr. Hinds said the church has maintained a longstanding partnership with the JCF, of which the policemen and women continue to benefit significantly.
