$305 Million Budgeted for Education Transformation Programme

A sum of $305 million has been allocated for the implementation of the Ministry of Education and Youth’s Education Transformation Programme in the upcoming fiscal year.

The sum is contained in the 2023/24 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The project’s main objective is to provide additional classrooms to alleviate the shift system and overcrowding in secondary schools.

Anticipated targets for 2023/24 include completing the construction of administrative blocks and completing pre-contract activities for auditoriums.

Commencement of construction activities for third and fourth- form blocks, and 10 per cent completion of work on auditoriums are also programmed.

The project will be implemented through the National Education Trust (NET) and funded by the Government of Jamaica.
