The Full Story

The Government has, so far, received 3,000 applications from operators of licensed public passenger vehicles (PPV) for the gas relief grant.

This was disclosed by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, in a Statement to the House of Representatives on July 5.

“Payments will commence in two weeks for applicants verified as having duly paid-up PPV licences. I encourage those PPV operators who have not signed up yet, to do so. Applications will be accepted until the end of August,” Dr. Clarke said.

He added that applications opened for the $25,000 PPV operators/transport operators grant on June 20.

In March 2022, Dr. Clarke announced the provision of $25,000 gas relief grants for public passenger vehicle operators to cushion the rising cost of fuel. The programme will cost just under $600 million.

Meanwhile, the Minister informed that the $200-million loan scheme for taxi operators is now in effect and available through microfinance institutions.

Loan proceeds can be used for the acquisition of spare parts, batteries, tyres and repairs.
