Visit of Venezuelan President Cancelled

The visit to Jamaica of Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, which was planned to coincide with Jamaica’s Independence on Thursday, August 6, has been cancelled because of an injury he sustained while participating in a softball game yesterday (August 3).
President Chavez was scheduled to visit St Vincent and the Grenadines before travelling onward to Jamaica. The governments of Jamaica and Venezuela are already discussing a new date for President Chavez to visit Jamaica.
President Chavez was invited to Jamaica by Prime Minister Bruce Golding during the Petro Caribe Summit in St Kitts-Nevis in June.
