Thirty Five Million Allocated To JIS To Commence Modernisation Process

The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) is to receive $35 million this fiscal year to commence the modernisation process of the agency.

This is set out in the 2013/14 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The allocation will be used to purchase a standby generator; computer equipment and software; and television production equipment.

Another $4.13 million has been allocated to undertake an Information Technology Infrastructure project within the Office of the Prime Minister, as well as to purchase equipment.

Of the sum, $3.13 million will be used to facilitate email securities renewal and anti-virus and spyware renewal; while the remainder will go towards equipment procurement for the office.

In the meantime, a sum of $1 million has been allotted for the refurbishment of Government residential buildings as well as improvement to official/heritage properties and executive offices.
