The Full Story

The Attorney General’s Department has launched a technical training programme for attorneys in central government, which is focused on the centralisation of legal services.

The training, which emphasises technical core competencies, leadership and team-building skills, got underway on Wednesday (October 10) at Ministry of Justice’s Constant Spring Road offices in St. Andrew.

It is part of the Strategic Public Sector Transformation Programme, which is supported by the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.

Attorney General, Hon. Marlene Malahoo Forte, said the training being offered will help the attorneys to improve their service.

“We’re now in the implementation stage of the centralisation of legal services. The training that is to take place today is critical. If you are already up on your game, it means that you’re only going to be strengthened and if there are gaps, then the gaps are to be filled,” she noted.

“I have every reason to believe that sooner than later, this cohort of legal officers within the Government of Jamaica will be the group that all attorneys and aspiring attorneys want to be a part of,” she added.

She reminded the attorneys that they play an important role in nation building and the Government service is depending on their success.

“In this role as Attorney General, my commitment is to do all I can to ensure that our institutions operate regularly and in accordance with the laws that are passed. It means, therefore, that all legal officers have an even greater role to ensure that all relevant office holders, in the offices that they are placed, understand the standard by which they are to act,” she said.
