Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Fayval Williams is encouraging teachers to use the Ministry’s job bank portal to identify jobs in the sector.

The portal, which can be accessed at https://jobs.moey.gov.jm/ aims to streamline the process of finding teachers and teaching jobs.

“We know the search process sometimes takes a while for you to find a school that needs your subject area if you are a specialist, or to come in contact with that primary school that will need you,” Mrs. Williams said.

“We made it easier, and we would love for you to register and upload your resume unto the job platform, so our principals and school boards all across Jamaica will have access to that information and make your placement and search process easier,” she added.

The Minister was speaking at the Jamaica Teaching Council’s Beginning Teachers’ Synergy Conference held at the MICO University College on Friday (February 16).

Mrs. Williams also encouraged teachers to utilize the Ministry’s online repository of lesson plans.

She noted that they can download and tailor the lesson plans to fit the needs of the students.

“I want to implore you as you go into the classrooms to take with you all your innovations and all your imagination. I am asking you not just to go to school and fit in with what is there. I want you to be as innovative as you can to put forward your ideas in staff meetings and to speak to your principals about ideas you may have as to how you may improve learning outcomes in our schools,” the Education Minister said.

In the meantime, Minister Williams informed that over 663 schools now have internet connectivity.

She also stated that the Ministry is prepared to work hard to ensure that schools in need of critical maintenance, will be outfitted with the necessary improvements for greater learning outcomes.

“I want you to embrace transformation in education because we know that is the main ingredient to transforming the nation, to expanding economic activity in this country [and] to help persons to fulfil their potential. We know that it’s you, the teachers, who are the architects,” she said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Kasan Troupe, who also attended the event, encouraged teachers to continue to be passionate about their careers as they enter the classroom, for the greater development of the country.
