Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Hon. Marsha Smith, is lauding the leadership of independent schools for their commitment to education and their role in positively shaping young lives.

State Minister Smith also praised the independent schools for their dedication to enhancing the quality of the education sector in the country.

Ms. Smith was speaking at the Independent Schools’ three-day conference on July 17, at the Ocean Coral Spring Resort in Falmouth, Trelawny.

“The Ministry recognises the value and importance of independent schools in Jamaica. We are aware of the dedication and hard work displayed by these institutions in providing quality education to students across the nation,” the State Minister said.

“We will continue working closely and collaborating with independent schools… highlighting our shared goal of achieving results for our students, whether they attend private or public institutions,” she added.

Ms. Smith underscored the Government’s commitment to fostering a collaborative environment that benefits all educational institutions in Jamaica.

She pointed out that by acknowledging the pivotal role played by independent schools in shaping the academic landscape of the country, the Ministry has signalled a continued effort to support and empower these independent institutions in their mission to provide quality education to all students.

“The hard work we have been seeing, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a testament to their dedication and contribution to the education sector in Jamaica,” Ms. Smith said.

“Through ongoing collaboration and partnership, the Government and independent schools aim to work together towards a common goal of ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education that equips them for success in the future,” she added.

Ms. Smith said that as the education sector in Jamaica continues to evolve, the growing presence of independent schools stands as a testament to their vital role in shaping the future of the nation’s youth, emphasising that “with a shared commitment to excellence and student success”, the collaboration between the Government and independent schools holds promise for a brighter and more prosperous future for education in Jamaica.
