The theme of the conference is, “Universal Sustainability of Sanitation”. It will focus on the challenges of efficiency in the provision of sewerage services and its relation to the fight against poverty.
Senator Franklin will give a status report on Jamaica’s current sanitation situation in the areas of water, solid waste and hygiene promotion and health education.
The conference is a continuation of discussions which began at the first conference in November 2007, in Cali, Colombia. That conference ended with the signing of the Ministerial Declaration of Cali by representatives of 17 countries, including Jamaica, establishing three goals to be pursued by Latin American and Caribbean Countries:

The conference will also seek to encourage improvements in the provision of sanitation services and sustainable related natural resources, which should contribute to poverty alleviation and the well-being of Latin America and the Caribbean.
