The Full Story

The Government is spending millions of dollars on the rehabilitation and repair of several roads in the parish of Hanover.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Hon. Everald Warmington, said that work is being undertaken on the Hopewell to Cacoon Castle roadway at a cost of $224 million.

He noted that $60 million of the amount was procured to begin phase one of the project and “the balance of $164 million will be allocated this [financial] year”.

The scope of works includes asphalting, patching and drainage improvement.

Minister Warmington was speaking to journalists, following a tour of sections of the parish on Wednesday (February 9).

Additionally, he indicated that work on the $60-million Chichester to Golden Grove project has started, and repairs on the roadway from Shelterwood to Chester Castle will begin shortly.

The Minister said that ongoing maintenance is essential in preserving the roads and ensuring that they do not fall into disrepair.

The day’s tour took the Minister to Ramble, Cascade, Maryland, Hopewell, and other areas across the parish to examine the road infrastructure.
