RGD Receives Leadership Award

The Registrar General’s Department (RGD) was presented with the Public Sector Leadership Award by the Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) on September 26, for the outstanding support given to small and medium enterprises.
The award was presented by JEF President, Audrey Hinchcliffe, to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of Operations at the RGD, Bryan Aikman, at the JEF’s annual Employers’ Evening of Excellence awards ceremony, at the Little Theatre in Kingston. Speaking with JIS News, Mr. Aikman paid tribute to the support of the staff at the agency. “This award is as a result of the hard work of the members of our mobile team who took the services that the RGD offers to the offices of both small and medium-sized businesses.
What this means for employers, is that their employees do not have to leave work to go to the RGD to apply for their necessary documents. Therefore, there is no loss of production time,” he said.
On a monthly basis, the RGD is required to conduct at least 80 outreach programmes. Every year, the Department conducts over 960 such programmes across the island.
Currently, the RGD’s outreach team is undertaking the ‘Name the Child’ Project, which is an initiative that seeks to encourage parents whose children were born between January 1, 2003 and August 31, 2004, to get the names of their children registered and also to add the father’s particulars to the child’s birth record.
The teams will be in St. Mary on Friday, September 29 at the Annotto Bay High School and at the Civic Centre in Port Maria. There are currently some 960 children who were born in St. Mary during this period whose names are not officially registered.
