The National Youth Parliament of Jamaica (NYPJ) was started in November 2003 as a non-partisan initiative to providing youth across Jamaica with a forum to express their views, network and debate issues of concern in the House of Representatives.  The parliamentary proceedings were held at Gordon House on November 28, under the theme: ‘REIGNITED: Empowering Youth for Jamaica 60 and Beyond’.

York Castle High School partnered with the HEART NSTA Trust to prepare a Driving Fundamentals Curriculum that engaged eligible senior students to learn about the rules of the road.  With the support and partnership of the Island Traffic Authority, Road Safety Unit Authority in the Ministry of Transport and Mining, over 30 students at York Castle High were given the opportunity to sit the road code examination on Friday January 27 as a group to acquire their provisional licenses.

The Ministry of Education and Youth in collaboration with the Ministry of National Security’s Citizen Security Secretariat through its 25/34 Inter-ministerial school strategy, recently engaged students from nine high schools located in Zones of Special Operations in a Kids in Tech – STEM Forum at the Denham Town High School on Tuesday, January 10.

The Lucea Primary Spelling Bee competition was first hosted in 2021 by the school’s literacy committee as part of efforts to make the subject matter more fun for students. It was a resounding success and prompted the committee stage the event for a second year.
