Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, has outlined plans for a Lucea-Hopewell Bypass to assist in easing congestion in the Hanover towns.
Mr. Holness, during his recent contribution to the 2024/25 Budget Debate, told the House of Representatives that the bypass will be a four-lane highway that starts at a grade-separated intersection along the new Long Hill Bypass that is currently being constructed.
“The alignment will then traverse westward for approximately 30 kilometres, with link roads to the main road before and after the town of Hopewell before terminating on the westward side of the town of Lucea,” Mr. Holness said.
He noted that Lucea and Hopewell are old coastal towns that did not benefit from modern urban planning.
“In fact, they both date back hundreds of years to a time when horse and buggy were the mode of transportation. The roads are now bottlenecks,” the Prime Minister said.
