OID Medical Mission Begins on January 20

The Full Story

The annual medical mission to Jamaica by the Organisation for International Development (OID), begins in the maroon community of Accompong with a health fair on January 20.
Last year, the team provided dental, optical, paediatric and general medical examinations for over 600 residents of the area.
Speaking to JIS News, Colonel of the Accompong maroons, Sidney Peddie noted that the entire community was looking forward to the visit of the medical team.
“The Accompong Council will be going all out to make sure that our visitors are treated like royalty and we are thankful for what they have done for us over the years and we hope that there will be similar visits in the future,” he said. “I encourage persons from both far and near to come out and make use of the services to be provided as we all know that, on average, it would be quite costly to visit both a doctor and a dentist on the very same day,” the Colonel added.
Liaison Officer for OID, Maxine Greaves told JIS News that the mission would last until January 28.
“We arrive in Kingston on January 19. From there we transfer to Mandeville and by the following day, we begin in Accompong. By Monday, January 22, a medical team will go to Crofts Hill in Clarendon and dental teams will be dispatched to 3D projects in St. Catherine and Bellevue,” she said.
Other locations to be visited by the OID medical mission include Harmons and Royal Flat in Manchester; Springfield in St. James and Maryland in Hanover.
Launched in 1990, the OID is a New York-based non-profit voluntary organization, committed to promoting the spirit of benevolence and to advance and preserve the health, welfare and physical well-being of the needy and poor throughout the Diaspora, by engaging in charitable projects.
