The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management is reporting that there are currently three hundred and forty three (343) persons in shelters in the parishes of St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew and Clarendon. The breakdown is as follows:
St. Catherine – 202 personsKingston & St. Andrew – 63 personsClarendon – 78 persons Total – 343 persons The ODPEM is reminding persons that if they live in an area that is threatened by flooding, they should make every effort to move the animals to higher ground and release them into the open. Farmers are also encouraged to check on their animals early and move them to a safe location away from river banks and areas likely to have landslides.
The public is also reminded that pets are not allowed in Shelters. Alternative arrangements should be made prior to evacuating to a shelter.
