The Full Story

The National Road Operating and Constructing Company Limited (NROCC) will, this year, continue work in relation to several infrastructure projects in fulfilment of its mission.

NROCC will continue to monitor the operation of Phase 1C of the May Pen to Williamsfield segment of Highway 2000.

The segment, which forms part of the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP), was completed and opened to the public during fiscal year 2023/24.

Meanwhile, construction of the Montego Bay perimeter road is advancing, and NROCC anticipates the buildout of eight additional kilometres, specifically in relation to the Long Hill Bypass, by the end of fiscal year 2024/25.

Details of these engagements are outlined in the Jamaica Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the Fiscal Year ending March 2025.

Meanwhile, NROCC intends to maintain its collaboration with pertinent stakeholders concerning the current toll roads, with the aim of pinpointing and executing safety-enhancement initiatives.

This will take the form of weekly site inspections for environmental and safety compliance, from which 12 reports are expected to be generated and submitted, to address any issues arising.

NROCC will also vigilantly monitor and analyse adverse trends regarding matters such as highway fires, accidents, and fence theft.

Additionally, they will work closely with the developer and law enforcement to address these challenges and pursue effective mitigation strategies.

NROCC is a public company formed to represent the Government of Jamaica’s interest under a Concession Agreement signed in 2001 for the establishment, development, financing, operation and maintenance of a tolled highway network.
