Nobility Must be Restored to Policing – Hardley Lewin

Commissioner of Police, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin has stressed the need to restore nobility to the policing profession in Jamaica.
“As police officers, we are a part of that noble profession, which can be one of the most rewarding occupations. We have a unique opportunity to touch the lives of those whom we serve and to significantly impact the quality of life of Jamaicans,” he said, noting that policing must be viewed as a calling and not just another job.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Island Special Constabulary Force Association’s (ISCFA) 25th annual conference yesterday (June 4) at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann. The two-day event is being held under the theme: ‘Honouring the Past, Preparing for the Future’.
Turning to the police code of ethics, the Commissioner said that this would create the foundation for the ushering in of a new era in policing in Jamaica and called upon the members of the ISCF and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to join in the effort.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Major Richard Reese, in the meantime, commended the ISCF on its achievements over the years. “In terms of asset protection, you have an enviable track record .in terms of inventory and stores management… the ISCF stores are determined to be of the highest standards,” Major Reese informed, adding that the ISCF also had a reputation of zero tolerance in terms of breaches of the road code.
He further commended the various teams on their resourcefulness in effecting repairs on their facilities, noting that this served as a means of cost savings.
