The Full Story

Several micro, small and medium-sized business operators in Kingston and St. Andrew benefited from the National Housing Trust’s third Compliance Engagement and Mobilisation Session (Compliance 365) at Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew, on Thursday (March 7).

NHT Assistant General Manager for Compliance, Dameon McNally, said the session is pivotal to the entity’s thrust to improve compliance among members of the targeted group.

“We want to let our contributors know the importance of being compliant. When you are compliant, you can access a myriad of benefits, not just from the National Housing Trust. For example, it will allow you to have a Tax Compliant Certificate (TCC), so you can engage other entities like the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) for a loan,” he informed.

Mr. McNally indicated that the Compliance 365 series began in July 2023, and advised that additional sessions will be held across the island during fiscal year 2024/25.

“We realise that a lot of persons are not aware of the benefits of the National Housing Trust. Since COVID-19, there has been an uptick in entrepreneurship and we want to tell our small business owners to come out, get registered and do the right thing by your employees. Even if you only have one employee, get registered and allow them to access the benefits of the NHT,” the Assistant General Manager said.

Businessowner, Kemar Henriques, was among the scores of persons who turned out.

He said more entrepreneurs should make use of these sessions so that they can begin to reap the benefits of being compliant.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to register [my] business, Rapid Action Courier Services. It was a great experience for me. I learnt things that I never knew about, and I can start paying my NHT contributions now,” Mr. Henriques told JIS News.

The attendees were also able to access a wide range of business services from some of the Trust’s partners.

They included the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ), Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), National Insurance Scheme (NIS), HEART/NSTA Trust and DBJ.
