The Full Story

The National Housing Trust (NHT) is encouraging persons to make use of the entity’s online portal to conduct business other than applying for their contribution refunds.

The platform can be accessed at https://online.nht.gov.jm/.

Speaking at a recent Think Tank at the agency’s head office in Kingston, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at the NHT, Dwayne Berbick, said the platform provides “an integrated customer experience” that not only looks at payment refund, but the individual’s entire NHT profile.

“It keeps you up-to-date on what information the NHT has for you [and] the benefits that you are entitled to,” said Mr. Berbick.

“Once you log in, the dashboard automatically indicates to you the benefits for which you are eligible,” he said.

He noted, for example, that the platform will inform persons who have already received an NHT loan that they are now eligible to apply for a second loan.

Contributors are also able to apply for their eligibility letter via the portal.

Mr. Berbick said that once persons become familiar with the portal, they can easily spot any error that may exist prior to making an application and contact the NHT to have it corrected.

As persons are now applying for refund of contributions made up to 2016, Mr. Berbick said the data indicate that there is a preference from contributors to use the NHT online portal.

He indicated that within the first three days of January, the NHT received 30,870 applications, of which 18,145 were done using the online feature.

The other channels by which applications for refund can be made are the NHT’s website at www.nht.gov.jm and the online mobile application, which is available for download in both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
