The Full Story

Six students at Lennon High School in Clarendon have received education grants from Member of Parliament (MP) for Clarendon North Central, Hon. Robert Morgan.

The beneficiaries are some of the top Primary Exit Profile ( PEP) students at the school.

Mr. Morgan, who is also Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, with Responsibility for Information, has also launched a $100,000 scholarship programme for four students at the school.

“I want you to give it to the students who could do a little bit better. I want the students who you know have the potential, but they need a little motivation,” Mr. Morgan said.

The Minister was speaking at the school’s prize-giving ceremony, today (November 22), in Mocho.

Mr. Morgan called on the students to make the best of the educational opportunities offered to them, and to be disciplined.

He noted that their parents have “done so much” for them by investing in their development. “I am asking you students not to shame your parents,” the Minister urged.

For her part, Acting Principal of the school, Tanesha Powell, said the leadership of the institution is elated for the grants and scholarships.

“The students have felt that they are not remembered, and for Minister Morgan to give them scholarships, it will go a far way, and they are going to be extremely happy,” she said.

Recently, Mr. Morgan donated an Idea Hub (smart board) to the school, which the Acting Principal said is helping to “enhance learning” for many students at the institution.

As part of his education programme for the constituency, annually the Member of Parliament contributes $50,000 from his salary to two students attending his alma mater, Clarendon College.

Meanwhile, Pastor at the Ebenezer Beulah Circuit of Baptist Churches, the Reverend Arnold Parkinson, told the students that with determination they can get into great professions.

“There are notable individuals in society, who were just like you, and they, through determination, succeeded and helped families and others in their communities,” he said.
