Ministers Briefed on Conduct and Good Governance in First Cabinet Meeting

Cabinet met for the first time today. Suffragan Bishop of Kingston, Rev Robert Thompson charged Cabinet Members saying, "The leadership that we need today is not one characterised by power and control, but a leadership of powerlessness and humility. Effective service can only come from humility."
 
Cabinet members were also given a detailed briefing on the operations of Cabinet; the conduct required of Ministers; the fiscal responsibility framework and other areas necessary for good governance.
 
Prime Minister Simpson Miller charged Ministers, ten of whom are first time Members of Cabinet that they must always operate with the interest of the Jamaican people in mind.
 
She said the people of Jamaica have invested heavily in this administration and their interest must be paramount.
 
The Prime Minster also warned Permanent Secretaries that they must protect the public purse and must not allow anyone to breach the law.
 
The next Cabinet meeting will be held Monday, January 16.
