The Full Story

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, led by Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, will observe Diplomatic Days 2024 from March 12 to 14, under the theme, ‘Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development’.

According to Minister Johnson Smith, “The Diplomatic Days platform is designed to maximise our engagements with resident and non-resident Ambassadors and High Commissioners to promote our economic diplomacy and strengthen our international partnerships. This year’s event will build on the successes of previous editions including last year’s Diplomatic Week, which facilitated twenty-six bilateral meetings and multilateral engagements. We continue to maximise Jamaica’s economic growth potential and drive the country’s development agenda, as the Government of Jamaica accelerates its programme of transforming Jamaica into a global trade and investment mecca.”

Diplomatic Days 2024 will feature the key fixture of a formal address by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade as well as policy briefings by other Cabinet Ministers.

The first order of business will be the presentation of Letters of Credentials and Introduction, which will allow newly appointed representatives to formally engage with the Government of Jamaica.

Letters will therefore be presented by eight (8) newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners from: the Kingdom of Denmark; the Republic of Korea; the State of Israel; the Republic of Suriname; the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; the Republic of Peru; and New Zealand.

Diplomatic Days 2024 will culminate with the signature Diplomatic Dinner, to be hosted by Their Excellencies the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, KSTJ, Governor-General of Jamaica and the Most Honourable Lady Allen, at King’s House on Thursday, March 14.

In addition to recognising the invaluable contribution of the Diplomatic Corps to the strengthening of the ties between Jamaica and its bilateral partners, Diplomatic Days 2024 is also geared towards showcasing aspects of Jamaica’s social and cultural heritage and the promotion of Brand Jamaica.
