The Full Story

The Kingston Free Zone Company Limited (KFZ) plans to remain focused this year on providing services of the highest standard to its clients while continuing on a path towards becoming more sustainable.

The KFZ, to this end, has established new strategic objectives that they will concentrate on.

Details of these are outlined in the Jamaica Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the Fiscal Year ending in March 2025.

Among the KFZ’s key strategic priority focuses are enhancing infrastructure and operational efficiency.

The entity is looking to enhance the visual appeal of property it manages, improve its preventive maintenance programme, and ensure timely execution of service contracts.

To bolster profitability and financial management, KFZ will focus on maintaining cost reduction and containment initiatives, alongside enhancing collections processes.

The Entity also plans to embark on aggressive marketing to attain and maintain an overall 98 per cent occupancy level for factory and warehouse space, and full occupancy for business process outsourcing (BPO) spaces.

Among these is the KCT Logistics Park, a recently constructed facility primarily dedicated to warehousing and distribution activities.

Operational effectiveness and security are also key focus areas for KFZ, with the management looking to boost labour-force productivity by implementing comprehensive cross-training programmes for employees.

The entity will also seek to maintain security at the managed facilities at internationally acceptable levels, with the continued acquisition of equipment at a cost of $155.22 million.

KFZ was established on February 5, 1982, under the Companies Act of Jamaica.

Ownership of KFZ is divided between the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), which holds a 72 per cent stake, and the Accountant General Department, representing the Government of Jamaica (GOJ), which holds the remaining 28 per cent.

The primary role of KFZ is to promote and facilitate local and foreign investments in Jamaica.

The main activity of the entity is rental of warehouses, and factory and office space.

KFZ also acts as property manager and provides management services for the Jamaica International Free Zone Development Limited.
The entity has consistently aligned its efforts with the Government of Jamaica’s objectives.

This, particularly in relation to fostering internationally competitive industry structures and establishing a supportive framework for the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors.
