A section of the John Common Road, near Stonehenge, in St. James, will be repaired at a cost of $6.5 million.
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Derrick Kellier, signed the contract on February 5, at the Orange Hill Primary School, in St. James.
In his address, Mr. Kellier informed that the work will get underway next week and completed within four weeks.
He noted that the section of roadway has been very challenging for pedestrians, motorists and farmers over a long period of time, and repairing the roadway should improve the lives of the citizens of the entire community, and in particular, the farmers who have been challenged to move their produce and other goods to market.
“Transportation will be able to drive safely on the new surface. This road is one of many farm roads being refurbished across the island under the National Farm Road Rehabilitation Programme, officially launched by the Prime Minister, and has an overall value of some $1.2 billion,” the Minister said.
He said the project would utilize a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the rehabilitation and maintenance of farm roads, to the benefit of thousands of farmers across the island.
