JAYP to Stage Leadership Conference November 18-19

The Jamaica Association of Young Professionals (JAYP), will be hosting its inaugural Leadership Conference this month, to provide training for young professionals who want to bring about significant change in their organisations.
The conference, which is titled, ‘Transformational Leadership: A Leadership Conference for Professionals’, will be staged at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, in Kingston, on November 18 and 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. under the theme: “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally – Addressing Corporate Challenges Through Effective Leadership”.
In an interview with JIS News today (November 3), Chairman of the JAYP, Mr. Junior Rose, said the primary aim of the conference is to prepare young professionals to become transformational leaders.
“This conference is a part of our larger education and professional development initiative, where we seek to holistically develop the young professional base here in Jamaica. The JAYP recognises the importance of preparing our present and future leaders for success and intend, through this initiative, to train as many young professionals as possible to be transformational leaders,” he informed.
Over the two days of the conference, participants will be treated to presentations from a first class line-up of speakers, including Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Audley Shaw; Minister of Education, Hon. Andrew Holness; Chief Executive Officer of Leahcim T. Semaj & Company Limited, psychologist, Dr. Leahcim Semaj; Managing Director, Quality Management Consultancy Co. Ltd, Dr. Nsombi Jaja; Senior Investment Manager, Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB), Dr. Adrian A. Stokes; Secretary General, Jamaica National Commission for the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mr. Everton Hannam and Deputy Chief Inspector, National Education Inspectorate, Dr. Walter Phillips.
Topics up for critical examination and analysis include: ‘Beyond the Fiscal Crisis: Fostering Organisational Renewal to meet evolving needs and challenges’; ‘Understanding the impact of the Millennium Development Goals on today’s workforce and young professionals’; ‘Developing a personal leadership philosophy: How to Compete in a Highly Competitive and Turbulent Global Economy’; ‘Getting the right people in the right positions: Aligning style preferences to the task environment of the individual, team and organisation’; and ‘Thinking Regionally, Acting Locally – Developing Ways to Cope, Network and Leverage Opportunities’.
Additionally, each day of the conference will include a large group workshop that will address the following leadership skills: Leadership Styles, Communication, Planning, Group Dynamics, Ethics and Values, Vision, Strategy, Change, Facilitation, Perspective, Creativity and Innovation and Inter-Personal Strength.
Registration for each day of the conference is J$10,000, which covers coffee breaks, lunch, training materials and a Certificate of Completion. Group discounts for five participants or more are also available. Early bird registration of J$8,000 each day ends November 6, 2009.
