JASPEV Allocated $25.1 Million

The Jamaica Social Policy Evaluation Project (JASPEV), has been allocated $25.1 million in the 2007/08 Estimates of Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives, yesterday (March 29).
The project, which began in August 2002, falls under the Office of the Cabinet and is being funded by the Government and the Department for International Development.
Among the physical targets anticipated for this fiscal year are: the development of a methodology for prioritizing national policies, emphasizing policies that target the poor; strengthening the operationalisation of the Code of Consultation; review, publish and disseminate a 2005 National Youth Report; institutionalization of the youth inclusion prototype within the youth development sector; and proposals for institutionalization of JASPEV processes to be approved.
Several achievements were accomplished up to December 2006. A public education campaign for specific target audience as well as the general public with a view to stimulating local community and other interest groups to actively participate in activities relating to JASPEV process was carried out; the establishment of institutional networks; new system of prioritization programmes and projects; assessment of 3-year rolling programme for social policy; and a youth inclusion prototype was fully implemented by December 2006.
The objective of JASPEV is to establish processes and mechanisms to enable social policy priorities identified in the social policy framework and the social action plan to be disseminated and carried forward effectively on a continuous basis.
