This deal has been hailed by Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, as a boost for the creative industries.

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting at his New Kingston offices on Wednesday, November 26, the Minister noted that both organisations share similar objectives in “enhancing and building the culture and creative industries.”

“This partnership depicts, in every degree, the commitment of the Government to work with the private sector, and other stakeholders for the betterment of the creative sector, and our country,” Mr. Hylton said.

The  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the two groups for the organisation and production of the Festival, is also aimed at expanding the entertainment offerings to provide world class activities during the event, and to attract industry and media attention to location Jamaica as a filming destination.

Other components of the MoU include the attraction of local and international investors, especially from the Diaspora, to further the bolstering of the local film industry, and to encourage more local productions; to showcase Jamaican content; to increase the sales and distribution of local film and TV content, and to attract visitors to Jamaica.

“This partnership shows that we are determined to continuously develop strategic partnerships, aimed at achieving sustainable and transformational growth,” the Minister said, noting that “huge potential” exists in the film industry, which is worth US$35 billion.

Mr. Hylton said efforts will continue to make “our location more attractive and competitive.”

The Bob Marley Foundation will help JAMPRO through workshops on the use of music in film, and the marketing of film soundtracks, including entering into the necessary contractual arrangements with workshop facilitators and sponsors.
