The Full Story

The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), last year, facilitated $7.58 billion in capital expenditures from landed investments, which in turn created 6,754 jobs.

This was disclosed by Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, on Tuesday, May 14, during his Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives.

The Minister said JAMPRO also facilitated $2.86 billion in export sales and $1.52 billion from 150 business linkage projects.

Minister Hylton also credited the agency for marshalling a 22.8 per cent increase in non-traditional exports from US$153.6 million to US$828.3 million.

There was a 6.8 per cent growth in the food sector from US$9.2 million to US$144.8 million, with core food categories namely sauces, ackee, seafood, animal feed and juices, recording increases.

Minister Hylton said while Jamaica has traditionally done well in attracting foreign direct investments (FDIs), the Government’s growth agenda demands that even more be done, and JAMPRO has been mandated to accelerate its efforts to promote investments and business in those sectors of the economy that stand to give the country the greatest growth.
