Jamaica Ratifies UN Agreements On Organised Crime, Arms And Human Smuggling

Prime Minister P.J. Patterson on Monday (September 29) signaled Jamaica’s formal ratification of a major United Nations Convention and three Protocols pertaining to international organised crime, human trafficking and the smuggling of arms.
The Prime Minister deposited the Instruments of Ratification at the United Nations on Monday (September 29) following his address to the 50 Session of the UN General Assembly.
The depositing of the Instruments reflects Jamaica’s accession to United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organised Crime, the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children; the Protocol Against Smuggling of Migrant by Land, Sea and Air; and the Protocol Against the Illicit Man ring of, and Traffickng in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition.
The Protocols are intended to support the Convention Against Transnational Organised Crime. In formally handing over the Instruments, Prime Minister P.J. Patterson was accompanied by Minister of Health John lunar, who has responsibility for children affairs.
